Welcome!

On this page you’ll find a brief overview and some background information. The other pages are not yet translated, but please contact us for more information. We hope this overview will inspire you to participate in one of our rides. We like to thank Amanda Walker for helping us with the translation !

We present a series of GPS guided biketrails/races (MTB, as well as racebike ) which include some of the most scenic areas of Belgium.

All our trails are presented as GPStracks which can be used in all Garmin devices. We have no written directions or roadbooks and the trails so not include trailmarkers. We added a lot of information for you to the GPStracks so you can confidentially follow each route, as well as access all the additional information you might need (packing advice, especially regarding food and water, as well as dangerous sections of the trail and technical descents). All trails are regularly checked and adjusted as needed, as well as improved as we see new opportunities for adventure!

We seek the most challenging routes, so be advised: do not underestimate any of the trails.

With your GPS as a guide, distance, numerous tough climbs and descents or technical trails will provide some great adventure, even without leaving Belgium. Always embark on your ride fully prepared. Belgium is (obviously) not the most inhospitable country, but you should always pack extra food and beverages, a First Aid kit and a paper map in your gear. Keep in mind: cellphone networks are not always available on the rides, especially for Project X and MMMM.

The site was launched in 2007 when Stef Reynaerts presented his Solo’s Rides. These epic mountainbike trails (55 km-1900m el. / 85km-2800m el. / 108km-4000m el.) are all located in the triangle Aywaille / Trois Ponts / Spa in the Belgian Ardennes and combine the most scenic and steep, techical tracks of the region.

Simultaneously Elias Van Hoeydonck started a similar project in the same area on paved roads.
Elias' Ride (233km / 6.200m el.) is a magnificent but challenging ride. There are two shorter versions of Elias’ Ride available, dividing the full ride into two equal parts. Many of the known climbs are included but the lesser known ones make this ride really special. Riding through the dense forest, little villages and along small , barely used, narrow roads  will be an adventure you will always remember.

These rides complement each other perfectly and form the foundation of solosride.be. The GPS tracks are available for free (simply download the tracks) and can be ridden all year long (except during hunting season for Solo’s Rides).

Both Elias' Ride and Solo's Rides are designed as races. Provide us with a raw logged GPS track (active log) after you complete a ride and  we will include your ride in the ranking on our site.

In 2007, TBNZ was organized for the first time by Elias and Stef. TBNZ is a non-stop mountainbike ride from the most northerly point of Belgium near the Dutch border to the most southerly point, the village of Torgny (375km/4700m el., max time: 36h). This ride is organized annually in June with minimal support. We provide the GPS track, meals and lodging at the finish.  We require  a small fee to cover expenses. No support is provided by the organisation during the ride. Each participant is allowed to organize support along the route, but riding solo and without support is encouraged.

TBNZ can also be ridden as an individual time trail (ITT). Like Elias' Ride and Solo’s Ride, we will validate your participation by including the raw logged GPS track (active log) that you provide us after you have ridden TBNZ in our ranking. If you have a Spot, you can be followed on the Spotwalla map.

In 2008, TBWO (510km/6700m el., max time: 60h) was the next ride we added to the list. This is also a non-stop mountainbike ride from the most eastern to most western point of Belgium.

This ride was first organized as a three-day journey from east to west. Since 2012, the direction changed and we choose to do it from west to east. Starting near De Panne at sea level, riders eventually reach the highest point of Belgium (Signal de Botrange, 694m) and finish at the German border. This ride is organized every two years in even years around August 15th and will occur next in 2016, so mark your calendar.

We provide the GPS track, meals and lodging at the finish. Riders submit a  small fee to cover expenses. We do not support riders during the ride. Each participant is allowed to organize support along the route but riding solo and without support is encouraged.

Elias launched Project 5 in 2010, a 400km/ 7000m el. mountainbike ride through five countries following the most technical and challenging paths. The ride begins in France, crosses the Belgian border, traverses Luxembourg, enters Germany and finally finishes in Vaals (The Netherlands). This ride spans three days with lodging and support throughout, covered by a small fee submitted by each rider.. This ride is organized every two years in uneven years .In 2015 this ride becomes Project X  more info will be available soon

All participants start TBNZ, TBWO and Project X rides together on a set date. Participation is very limited: the maximum number of participants for TBNZ /TBWO is 25 riders, and we only accept 10 participants in Project 5 rides. There is no ranking. Riders must ride the full track (tracklogs will be checked) and finish within the time limits. GPStracks are available only to the participants. We post a list of all riders who have finished these rides.

Riders can use a Spot GPS Satellite Messenger for free so that family and friends can follow riders live on a map created by Spotwalla.

Lowie Mariën joined us in 2011. His extensive knowledge of the Belgian Ardennes is available to you in the form of three different trails, each with a unique starting point.

Lowie created long and short versions of each trail that you can ride throughout the year (except during hunting season).

Lowie's Spa Ride (65km/1700m el+ ou 114km/3200m el+) is situated in the forest areas north and south of the resort town Spa and passes along the Hoëgne and its many narrow valleys near the village of Jalhay.

Lowie’s Stavelots Ride (74km/2150m el+ ou 95 km/2900m el+) begins in Stavelot and  is similar to Solo's 85 and 108 km in  altitude – this is an epic trip. This route also passes Coo Falls, Trois-Ponts and Spa. This region of Belgium is well known for its magnificent views across the Ambleve Valley. Take time to stop,  enjoy nature and beautiful small villages .

Lowie's Malmedy Ride (60km/1800m el+ ou 85 km/2250m el+) starts in Malmedy and looks like the easiest of the 3 tours Lowie presents, but make no mistake, it is challenging. The nature of the terrain makes this a difficult, exhilarating ride. This is one of the most remote areas of Belgium. The endlessness of the Hoge Venen, the many small but fast flowing rivers, and the magnificent Warche Valley allow riders to enjoy unforgettable natural beauty.

The GPS tracks of these trails are only available on request via lowiemarien@telenet.be .

In 2013, Elias presents a new trip: Magura's MARTELange Mountain Mayhem (74km /2.300m el. 91km /3.000 m el. 117km /4.000m el.). To create this ride, Elias selected the ‘best of’ from the courses he uses where he prepares  for marathons and multiday events in the Alps. The ride emphasises technical skill. Experienced bikers will enjoy many technical singletracks and have the opportunity to improve their skills.

The ride is entirely situated on Luxembourg territory between Martelange and Esch-sur-Sure, following a string of singletracks in the basin of the Lac de la Haut-Sûre.

The GPS tracks of the rides are only available on request via solosride@gmail.com.

The photo albums that we put together for each ride provide you an idea of what to expect.
If you need any additional information or have questions, please contact us: solosride@gmail.com.

Enjoy!
